AT A GLANCE
- Utility: Electric distribution company, South Asia
- Size: 110,000+ consumers
- Engagement: April 25, 2017 to June 30, 2024, with Bynry as prime vendor
- What Bynry delivered: Bynry's MRBD meter reading and billing software, with SMART360 platform functions, plus the team to run it
- Outcome: Completed as planned with zero platform failures, a 30% increase in efficiency in metering and billing activity, and a December 2025 reference rating Bynry excellent on every measure
THE CHALLENGE
A revenue cycle for 110,000+ consumers with no single system holding it together
Meter reading and billing ran on manual and part-automated processes. No single system held the revenue cycle together, so reads, bills and commercial records each lived in a different place.
At this scale, every manual handoff matters. A reading keyed in wrong becomes a wrong bill. A read that arrives late delays the bill run, and a delayed bill run delays revenue. Multiply that by more than 110,000 consumers every month, and the revenue cycle depends on how reliably each step is done, not on any single good month.
THE WORK
Seven years of running the revenue cycle, month after month
From April 2017 to June 2024, Bynry was the prime vendor for the utility's meter reading and billing program. The work combined Bynry's MRBD software for meter reading and billing with functions of the SMART360 utility management platform, and Bynry's teams ran the operations themselves.
The scope covered three areas:
- Meter reading: collecting reads across the distribution network every cycle
- Billing automation: turning validated reads into bills
- Commercial operations: the day-to-day work that keeps the revenue cycle moving
This was a services engagement. Bynry did not hand over software and leave. Its teams ran the revenue cycle, month after month, for more than seven years.
THE RESULT
Completed as planned, with zero platform failures
The engagement ran its full term and was completed as planned, with zero platform failures across more than 80 consecutive monthly billing cycles. Bynry's published case study on the engagement reports a 30% increase in efficiency in metering and billing activity.
In a reference verification dated December 2025, the utility rated Bynry excellent for responsiveness, accuracy, deliverables, staff expertise, professionalism, team continuity, timeliness, staying within budget and cooperation. Asked whether it would use Bynry again, the answer was yes.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR A SMALLER UTILITY
Proof at a scale above what most SMART360 Next customers will need
SMART360 Next is built for utilities of up to 40,000 accounts. This engagement ran a revenue cycle for more than 110,000 consumers, every month, for seven years, without a platform failure. A utility a third of that size is asking the team to carry a lighter load than it has already carried.
It also shows the team. The same commitment that kept billing running for seven years is what a smaller utility gets during implementation and after go-live.
